Every word Thomas Frank has just said on Tottenham sack as D-Day looms pre-Arsenal

Things have gone from bad to worse at Tottenham, with Thomas Frank certainly feeling the brunt of it.

Spurs remain winless in eight Premier League outings after Newcastle beat Tottenham 2-1 in North London on Tuesday night.

The pressure is piled on top of Frank’s head, with it seemingly inevitable that his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will come to an end soon.

Newcastle had won just two of their previous 15 on the road tonight, but still had enough to pick up all three points, even having a first-half goal disallowed through a Joe Willock offside.

Tottenham have a break this weekend after being dumped out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa in January, before they take on arch-rivals Arsenal on February 22.

Despite the pressure, Frank is convinced that he will be in charge for the North London derby.

Thomas Frank convinced of Tottenham future despite immense pressure

A cacophony of boos rang around the North London air on Tuesday evening as Spurs fell to their second defeat in four days, leaving them languishing above the drop zone.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Frank was adamant that he will remain in charge of the club for the foreseeable future.

I’m convinced I will still be in charge [for the Arsenal game]. I understand the question and I understand it’s easy to point on me but I also think it’s never only the head coach or the ownership or the directors or the players or the staff,” he told reporters.

It’s everyone. If you do something right, you build something that can last. Of course we are not in a top position now. Everyone knows, directors, ownership, myself, what position we are in, what we need to improve and what we need to do better. That is what we are working very hard on.”

Spurs have won just eight Premier League matches out of 26 under Frank, with a tally of just 29 points. The Dane though, is convinced he is still the right man for the job.

“I’m 1,000 per cent sure. I am also 1000 per cent sure that I never expected us to be in a situation like this with 11 or 12 injuries on the back end of this and what we’ve been facing, said Frank, also telling TNT Sport: “I spoke to them (owners) yesterday so no,” when asked whether his job is under threat.

“I think maybe there’s a theme,” mentioned Frank, discussing why so many sides low on confidence are able to pick up a result away at Tottenham.

“I think we’ve lost definitely too many games at home. There’s no doubt about that. This is a Newcastle team, a very experienced Newcastle team. They’ve been in various situations. They also know how to get out of situations like this, or whatever the situation they were in. But again, I think they were more on top in the first half.

We’re coming back, equalising, 1-1. At that stage, it’s an open game, and that’s where we need to understand, yes, we need to do everything we can to win, but we can’t concede a goal like we conceded a goal.

Tottenham have wasted golden opportunity after Europa League win

Following Spurs’ Europa League triumph last May, the general feeling was that the club would begin to shift through the gears with the trophy hoodoo now in the past.

It goes without saying that this has not come to fruition.

Tottenham have a talented squad full of experience at the elite end of European football, yet it is simply not clicking.

Winning just twice on home soil all term is a huge, huge concern for a club of Tottenham’s size, particularly when put alongside the promises that came with the stadium in 2019.

A severely out of form Newcastle side were able to come to North London and win, while the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth and even bottom-dwellers Wolves have been able to take points home.

It feels an inevitability that the Frank era will come to an end sooner rather than later, and the feeling will linger for a while as to what a missed opportunity this season has been, after a long lasting duck was eradicated last year.
