Dominic Solanke responds as Dele Alli shares message amid ex-Tottenham star’s hunt to find a new club

It has been a rough period for Dele Alli since leaving Tottenham.

The 29-year-old was released by Italian outfit Como in September, and has remained a free agent since.

Alli left Spurs in 2022, joining Everton, but has made just 27 appearances since then, for the Toffees, Besiktas and Como.

The midfielder scored 51 Premier League goals in 181 Tottenham appearances, and was once deemed one of the best young players of his generation – something that didn’t come to fruition.

Taking to Instagram as he remains in the search for a new club, current Spurs star Dominic Solanke responded with a hopeful message for Alli.

During his most recent spell at a club, with Como in Serie A, Alli made just one appearance.

And in those nine minutes on the pitch against AC Milan, he would receive a red card for a clumsy challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Posting a selection of training photos, the former wonderkid said: “Do what makes you happy,” to which Spurs striker Solanke replied, saying: “Always!”

Solanke made the move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2024, signing from Bournemouth.

Alongside current West Ham United full-back, Solanke and Alli had trained together that year as the midfielder aimed to get back to full fitness.

Dele Alli will always remain one of football’s biggest ‘what ifs’

It is not hyperbole to suggest that Alli had the world at his feet during the early days of his Tottenham career.

The versatile midfielder played a huge part in building what is the modern-day Spurs, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side fighting for the Premier League on multiple occasions, while reaching the latter stages of domestic and continental tournaments regularly.

With his form declining sharply during Jose Mourinho’s time at the club between 2019 and 2021, Alli would be further out of favour under Antonio Conte following his arrival, prompting his move to Everton.

With unbelievable technical gifts, a tall and strong frame making him reliable in the air, and excellent movement in and around the box, Alli was both a natural goalscorer and creator.

At the age of 29, Alli should still be one of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet, and the question will always remain as to just what level Spurs could have reached, had the midfielder become the player so many expected.
