Djed Spence now in Tottenham talks after ‘shocking’ scenes in Hong Kong
Djed Spence divides opinion at Tottenham Hotspur.
The ex-Middlesbrough full-back broke into the first team under Ange Postecoglou last season and often struggled on the pitch.
Spence was criticised multiple times for his performances by both pundits and fans alike.
However, with Thomas Frank now at the helm, his importance to the London side does not appear to be changing anytime soon.

Spence to be offered new Tottenham contract
Tottenham are currently on their pre-season tour in Asia, with multiple mouth-watering ties lined up.
Frank’s side are set to face Arsenal at the Kai Tak Stadium later this week, with many of the squad training hard ahead of the North London derby.
However, the full-back had a moment to forget in an open training session earlier this week, with Spence completely wiping out Pedro Perro, which was labelled “shocking” by Spurs fans online.
- Spence was loaned out to Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa before breaking in Tottenham’s team
- The full-back made 35 appearances in all competitions last season
- Spence’s contract is currently set to expire in 2028
Nevertheless, this moment of lunacy has not deterred Frank’s plans for the full-back, and he is not set to reward him ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
According to Paul O’Keefe via X (30 July), Spence is now in talks with Tottenham over a new and improved contract.
How much could Djed Spence earn at Spurs?
With a new contract will come new wages, which will likely significantly improve if the deal is signed.
According to Capology (30 July), Spence currently earns £40,000-a-week at Spurs, making him one of the lowest earners in the first team.
Fellow full-backs such as Ben Davies, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie currently earn between £75,000-a-week to £85,000-a-week.
How much Tottenham’s full-back’s earn | Wages per week |
Pedro Porro | £85,000 |
Ben Davies | £80,000 |
Destiny Udogie | £75,000 |
Djed Spence | £40,000 |
Therefore, Spence may be looking to get into this wage bracket as his importance to the squad increases.
A £70,000-a-week offer could be made, which would see his wages nearly double compared to his current deal.
