Darren Bent predicts Everton v Tottenham scoreline, shares ‘fear’ for Moyes

Darren Bent has predicted Tottenham to beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat in the North London derby in mid-week, with a Dominic Solanke own goal and Leandro Trossard strike proving the difference, heading into their next clash with heads held low.

While Ange Postecoglou’s side should be favourites to secure all three points on 19 January, Spurs’ recent form suggests anything could happen when the sides go head-to-head at Goodison Park.

Speaking live via talkSPORT [6:24pm], Bent said: “I think Spurs will win, simply because they’ve scored more goals than anyone by Liverpool. They’ve conceded 32. Everton’s problem is they’ve only scored 15.

“They’ve only conceded 26 which is decent. My fear for Everton would be if they go 1-0 down because we know how fast Spurs can start, or 2-0 down, who scores the goals to get them back into the game?

“That’s the problem. While Everton are in this rut in front of goal, if they score first with how defensively solid they are, it gives them something to hang onto. I always fear they can’t fight to get back into games.

“It’ll be 2-0 to Tottenham.”

Tottenham to beat Everton at Goodison Park?

While Postecoglou is under crushing pressure at Hotspur Way, and rightly so due to his team’s failings on the pitch, it seems unlikely a slip-up on Merseyside is about to occur.

David Moyes has only been in charge for one game so far – a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday 15 January. Despite Ollie Watkins’ winner, it was a defensively sound performance.

That was a running theme under Sean Dyche, one of the only positives under the former Burnley man, and Moyes will be hoping the same can continue under his leadership until the end of the season.

As Bent discusses above, scoring is the main issue currently infecting the squad, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Armando Broja all struggling to find the net this season.

With just three goals, Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye tie as the Toffees’ top goalscorers in the Premier League this term, which says everything you need to know about the ongoing issues.

Hopefully, Spurs can take advantage during their trip to Goodison Park.
