Danny Murphy reacts to ‘Woeful’ footage he saw in Tottenham game v Ipswich on MOTD

Danny Murphy has labelled one factor of Ipswich Town’s game as “woeful” after seeing footage of what they did against Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou’s side made it three Premier League wins in a row with a 4-1 win over Ipswich on Saturday (22 February).

Spurs made sure they delivered where it mattered and with four goals on the board, it will only increase the confidence in North London.

Murphy calls out woeful Ipswich Town in Tottenham win

Apart from a tough opening period, Postecoglou’s side looked fairly comfortable throughout the game and deservedly came away with all three points.

It was an assured victory for Tottenham and having three different goal-scorers on the list will no doubt have put a smile on the manager’s face as he looks for improvement throughout his team.

However, the Tractor Boys are certainly a side that are struggling this term, especially when it comes to conceding goals.

Therefore, Murphy was keen to call out Tottenham’s opponents for their defending in his analysis of the game on Match of the Day (22 February).

Speaking after the highlights, the pundit said: “I think Ipswich defensively are woeful. They’ve played the big boys and been beaten quite a few times and they’re still playing a back four.

“I think at times when you come up against the quality Tottenham have in the final third you have to, well not just Tottenham but the top teams, you have to be more respectful, maybe change it.”

Postecoglou hoping Tottenham have turned a corner

It has certainly been a difficult season for Spurs this term and at times, Postecoglou has found his future very much in doubt due to poor results and league positions.

Sitting 12th in the league, there is definitely plenty of work to still be done at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Furthermore, a victory over relegation-threatened Ipswich is unlikely to be the result that really saves the Australian from any speculation surrounding his role.

Nevertheless, you can only beat what is in front of you and building a run of three victories is exactly what is needed in North London to try and create some momentum that can be built off going forward.

It’s not an easy run-in for the Lilywhites in their next three Premier League games but if they can build off what they’ve done in those, it makes the games that lie ahead less pressurised for Postecoglou.

What is positive for Spurs in their upcoming games is that they are playing the majority at home but also are not required to leave London for any of their fixtures.

With this in mind, and with Tottenham players still recovering from injuries, this could certainly be a big boost for Postecoglou when it comes to keeping his side in their best condition.

There is still work to be done before the pressure will float away at Tottenham but the boss will be hoping his side have come out of their darkest period and are now ready for some success.
