Daniel Levy ‘told to raid Inter’ by influential figure as Postecoglou sack looms

Tottenham board members are already lining up replacements for Ange Postecoglou, with Fabio Paratici having one key name in mind.

Postecoglou appears to be on the brink after Spurs were eliminated from two domestic cup competitions in the space of three days, following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa in the FA Cup fifth round.

That came after the Lilywhites were humbled 4-0 by Liverpool in their EFL Cup semi-final second leg, being blown away in all departments at Anfield despite taking a 1-0 aggregate lead into the match.

As a result, and with their Premier League form falling off a cliff in recent months, Spurs higher-ups are mobilising potential successors should Postecoglou be shown the door, with some huge names raised.

Tottenham told to pursue Simone Inzaghi hire

With Postecoglou’s future in serious doubt, Tottenham board member Paratici is “attempting to convince” Daniel Levy to pursue Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi, according to Inter Live.

The Italian outlet reported on 10 February that with Inter currently sat second in Serie A, Inzaghi is yet to agree a new contract with the Nerazzurri, with his current deal set to expire in 2026.

Paratici sees Inzaghi as the ideal successor to Postecoglou if and when the Australian is replaced in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva are also in the frame.

Simone Inzaghi surely beyond the reach of Tottenham

Although the prospect of managing in the Premier League – and at one of the division’s biggest clubs – is a tantalising one, it’s unclear what Spurs could possibly offer Inzaghi to tempt him away from San Siro.

While Iraola and Silva are both punching well above their respective weights at Premier League level with Bournemouth and Fulham respectively, choosing to leave Inter is a wholly different proposition.

During his tenure at San Siro, Inzaghi has won one Serie A title, two Coppas Italia and three Supercoppa Italianas, as well as finishing as runners-up to Manchester City in the 2023 Champions League final.

Spurs are currently light years away from even competing at the top end of the Premier League, and their only path back into the Champions League next term appears to be via winning the Europa League.

Inzaghi will also be cautious not to replicate the failed spells of his Inter predecessors Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte in North London, both of whom were sacked mid-season and failed to win any silverware.

Levy and Paratici may well be aligned on Postecoglou’s uncertain future, but the lessons of the past must be learned to ensure that their next appointment doesn’t end up failing in the exact same ways.
