Daniel Levy now has Postecoglou ‘proof’ as Tottenham finance claim made

Tottenham have been urged to spend in the summer after Ange Postecoglou won the Europa League on Wednesday.

The Lilywhites travelled to Bilbao and came away with a first trophy in over 17 years after a Brennan Johnson goal in the first half.

This could be enough to keep the Australian head coach in his job moving into the new Premier League season after months of sack speculation.

With Champions League football also in the pipeline, the Spurs hierarchy have now been told to back Postecoglou moving into the transfer window.

Tottenham urged to spend in the transfer window

There was a large outlay in the summer on Dominic Solanke as the striker joined from Bournemouth for a fee in the region of £65million.

Besides this, young players like Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert were brought in and have played regularly, despite not being up to the level needed in N17.

This was once again repeated in the winter as Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso, and Mathys Tel came on but failed to become guaranteed starters under Postecoglou.

As a result, it is little surprise that the Lilywhites struggled to perform in the Premier League as they focused their energy on the Europa League.

With that being said, Micah Richards believes the 59-year-old head coach has to be backed in the summer after his success at the San Mames.

Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast on 22 May, the ex-Manchester City man has urged Spurs to spend in the upcoming window to help the head coach succeed.

He said: “What I would like to see now is for them to back him. I know Spurs have spent a lot of money over the years, but he’s a manager who’s got them over the line, he deserves that. It’s proof that, if everyone’s fit, they can play attractive football if he’s got the players he wants.

“I just want Spurs to say, ‘Go on, we’ve got the summer, we’re in the Champions League next year, let’s go give it a real challenge.'”

Tottenham could have sizable summer transfer spend

There has been plenty of negativity aimed towards Daniel Levy in recent years as he was blamed for the failings of the Lilywhites on the pitch.

This also coincided with the sales of star players like Harry Kane and failed signings like Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in recent years.

That could somewhat subside for the short term after winning the Europa League, but could return in the coming months if the transfer window is unsuccessful.

As Richards said, Postecoglou has earned the chance to build a squad in the summer, especially to make his side Champions League-ready.
