Daniel Levy jets out of UK in new Tottenham manager hunt amid Postecoglou news

Ange Postecoglou may have ended Tottenham’s 17-year wait for silverware, but his future remains in doubt.

Although the Australian led his side to lift the Europa League, a 17th-placed finish in the Premier League has led to discussions about whether or not he’ll be sacked.

After 22 league losses, Daniel Levy has a big decision to make this summer, ahead of juggling Champions League football next season too.

Levy set to make Postecoglou call

If it wasn’t for progression in the Europa League, it’s fair to assume that Postecoglou would have been out of a job earlier this season.

However, the 59-year-old delivered on his promise and delivered a trophy at Tottenham in his second season, putting to bed years of misery for Spurs in that department.

The Europa League win also secured Champions League football for next season, which has serious implications both on and off the pitch, leaving Levy in a difficult position.

According to Mike McGrath (31 May), a decision is set to be made next week, with Postecoglou’s position under extreme threat.

The poor Premier League form has forced Levy to consider alternative options as he jetted out of the UK in recent days.

Several key changes are set to be made behind the scenes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer and within that, there is the expectancy in some quarters that it will include a managerial change.

Levy to part ways with Postecoglou

Winning the Europa League has certainly made the decision over Postecoglou’s future a much tougher one for Levy.

However, the disappointment of league form this term, which saw the Lilywhites floating far too close to the relegation zone, has to serve as a warning for the north London outfit.

While Premier League standards have to pick up in a drastic way, preparing for Champions League nights puts an added pressure on whoever is in the hot seat and it has not been suggested so far that Postecoglou is equipped to deal with that.

Ending the trophy drought was a great moment for the manager, but Levy surely has to consider the bigger picture going forward.

Another dire finish in the league simply won’t be accepted in North London and that means that the man at the top has to have the right people in place entering the new season.
