Daniel Levy exit: Ian Wright makes shock Tottenham claim

Ian Wright claims that Daniel Levy should leave Tottenham as he is the person holding the club back.

With Spurs sitting 15th in the Premier League and winless in seven top-flight games, there is plenty of pressure on those at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to improve things.

There has been mounting pressure on Ange Postecoglou, although some argue that the issues in North London start higher up the chain with plenty of fingers pointed at executive chairman Levy.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast (30 January), ex-Arsenal striker Wright shared his belief that Levy should move on: “They should have been winning things, because of the owner – they haven’t won anything with him, have they? With Levy at the helm.

“Tottenham used to win trophies, used to win FA cups, they used to win stuff. It’s him.

“He’s the one, they’ve got to get him out and get an owner in who wants to win something with these fans. The stadium’s always full.”

Daniel Levy has Tottenham supporters frustrated

There is no doubt that things haven’t been easy for Spurs this season and an ever-growing list of injury issues in the squad has certainly not been helpful when it comes to competing throughout the campaign.

That being said, Postecoglou’s insistence of playing a certain style of football, even without the appropriate players available to do so, has certainly led to questions from some over whether the boss has the adaptability required for the role.

However, there is no way that Levy can escape without criticism for his part in where the Lilywhites currently find themselves either.

Levy is well known for pragmatism in the transfer market and, given there has been a string of quality managers at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium who have struggled to produce any success, you do have to question whether there is enough backing from the boardroom.

No one can deny that the owner has got his side in a comfortable position when it comes to being a sustainable side, which is not something to underestimate the importance of. However, if there is no progress on the pitch, it is only natural supporters will get restless with the regime too.

In other Tottenham news, an update has emerged as Spurs have been offered the chance to seal a new £19m transfer.
