Daniel Levy defended as big Harry Kane claim made by Tottenham hero

Tim Sherwood has defended Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy after making a big claim about Harry Kane.

The North London outfit’s chief has come under fire from fans over the years as they have failed to win silverware for several years.

Spurs supporters have protested against Levy after what has been deemed mismanagement from the 63-year-old, with underwhelming recruitment over the years.

Kane’s move to Bayern Munich in 2023 has seen the Lilywhites struggle to find a new reliable number nine, but Sherwood feels the chairman can’t be blamed for everything going wrong in N17.

Sherwood slams Tottenham for not producing Kane-like stars

Sherwood has slammed the North London outfit’s academy for failing to produce Kane-like superstars.

The former Spurs player and manager has backed Levy and feels the chairman is unfairly criticised for everything going wrong.

Sherwood has taken aim at the Lilywhites’ academy setup for failing to produce potential stars since Kane’s emergence in the first team several years ago.

Speaking to Football365 (13 March), the 56-year-old said: “Fans are angry at Levy because they have not won anything for a long time, and he is the common denominator who has been there for 20 years, but I feel it’s a bit unfair to pin it all on him.

“Levy has done so much for that football club, but he doesn’t pick the players or the tactics, so it’s not all his fault. He does select the recruitment people and the managers, and that’s where it hasn’t worked out.

“Levy has employed top managers like Nuno Espirito Santo, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, and no one would say they are bad managers. He is employing them in good faith and trusting them to do the job, but it hasn’t worked.

“When it goes wrong, everyone starts to blame everyone else and Levy has been there all of the time and gets some of the blame, but I would look at recruitment and their academy.

“They have not produced any top players through their academy since Harry Kane and that was a long time ago now.

“I look at the Manchester City and Arsenal academies, and they are producing a lot of good players, which is what Tottenham were crying out for with all their injuries this season.

“They have also recruited badly and spent a lot of money on players that haven’t worked out, but it’s not all Daniel’s fault. There is a lot wrong at Tottenham, but one man cannot shoulder all the blame.”

Spurs need change from Levy

Ange Postecoglou is struggling in the Premier League this season, and their prospects of attaining a European spot look unlikely.

The Australian manager has had to face several fitness issues in his squad recently, contributing to the poor performances.

Archie Gray has been deployed as a centre-back on several occasions in the current campaign, showcasing the lack of options at the former Celtic boss’ disposal.

In the winter transfer window, Spurs waited until Deadline Day to sign Kevin Danso despite an evident need for reinforcements in the backline.

Levy seemed to be reluctant to spend money in the winter window, and that decision has undoubtedly played a part in the North London outfit’s failures.

Last summer, the Lilywhites needed a number nine and signed Dominic Solnke from Bournemouth, who has been underwhelming so far.

While the recruitment and academy staff should take some of the blame, at the end of the day, Levy is responsible for every aspect at Spurs.

Instead of deflecting blame off the chairman, there must be accountability for the North London outfit’s failures.
