Cristian Romero torn to shreds amid Tottenham transfer news – ‘Bloody pest’
Cristian Romero has come in for severe criticism amid news that he is open to leaving Tottenham this summer.
Tottenham risk players asking to leave if they fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League under Ange Postecoglou this season.
As Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League with nine games left, that possibility looms large, with their only chance of playing in the European competition next term depending on their success in the Europa League.
Romero is among those who could be on the way out, prompting Atletico Madrid to keep tabs on his situation ahead of the summer.

Simon Jordan rips into Romero amid Tottenham news
Romero became a topic of discussion on talkSPORT after it emerged that he is open to leaving Spurs at the end of the season, with Jim White speaking highly of him.
However, Simon Jordan was quick to hit back as he described the Argentina international a “bloody pest” for being critical of Tottenham’s transfer business in December.
Matches | Minutes | Goals | Goals Conceded | Clean Sheets | Yellow Cards | Red Cards |

He acknowledged the centre-back as a good player, but pointed out how Postecoglou had put him ‘back in line’ after he appeared to take aim at Daniel Levy.
“He’s also a bloody pest”, Jordan said on talkSPORT (27 March).
“[He] has got too much to say for himself that he had to be put back in line by his own manager because he talks out of turn about what people should and shouldn’t do.
“A couple of years ago, he couldn’t be bothered to put it out there on the pitch; he was under-aroused by things and had to be pulled back in line.
“His discipline record doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Bloody good player.”
When probed further by White, Jordan clarified that Romero’s comments were not without truth, but insisted that he should not have done that in the public domain.
Spurs to cash in on Romero
With Tottenham increasingly likely to miss out on Champions League football next season, it is inevitable that they will have to sanction the exits of a few players.
Romero has certainly emerged as an early candidate to be cashed in by Spurs this summer.
Considering the defender’s age, contract and reputation, he is likely to command a significant amount of money in transfer fees, which is good for the North London giants, although they are not in desperate need of cash.
It is worth noting that Spurs forked out around £42million to sign Romero from Atalanta in 2022, meaning they will probably want a higher figure to sell him.
It remains to be seen if Atletico Madrid are prepared to pay such a fee to acquire his services.
