Cristian Romero told what to do next at Tottenham after ‘absolutely killing’ Thomas Frank

Cristian Romero is at the centre of all the discussion around Tottenham at the moment after his red card against Manchester United.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Romero being sent off in the first half for a late challenge on Casemiro.

It is the second time that the Tottenham captain has been dismissed this season, meaning he is now banned for the next four games.

Thomas Frank remains under intense sack pressure as a result of the defeat, and the centre-back’s red card has done little to help the situation.

Chris Sutton slams Cristian Romero

In the week leading up to the game against Man United, Romero seemed to hit out at the Tottenham hierarchy, criticising the current injury issues at the club.

The Argentine took to Instagram following the 2-2 draw with Manchester City, labelling it a “disgrace” that Spurs only had 11 first-team players available.

Romero’s comments have quickly come back to bite him though, as he is now unavailable himself until the middle of March.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Premier League winner Chris Sutton told Romero that he should keep his mouth shut and focus on his performance on the pitch.

Sutton added that, given the current pressure on Frank, the defender has absolutely killed his manager by getting himself sent off.

He said: “[Romero] should be concentrating on what matters most, and that is his performance on the park.

“The best thing to do when your team are struggling is shut your mouth and do your talking on the pitch.

“With all the pressure on Thomas Frank at this moment in time, he’s absolutely killed his manager.”

Which games will Cristian Romero miss?

Romero was dismissed against Liverpool back in December, but as he was sent off for two bookable offences, he was only suspended for one game.

Now that he has picked up his second red card of the season, he will be unavailable for the next four matches.

Tottenham face Newcastle United on Tuesday evening, before taking on Arsenal in the North London derby on 22 February.

Romero will be absent for both of those games, as well as fixtures against Fulham and Crystal Palace at the start of March.

The Argentinian international will return on 15 March to face Liverpool at Anfield.
