Cristian Romero reaffirms Tottenham commitment with recent comments

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero revealed he was thinking about his next game for Tottenham when he asked to be substituted during Argetina’s 2-0 win against Peru on Tuesday (17 October).

Romero appeared to pick up an ankle injury during the first few minutes of the match but was able to play on until half-time.

He had his ankle iced during the break and came out for the second half but asked to be taken off just minutes later. He revealed his thinking behind the decision during an interview with Argentinian publication La Voz (18 October), and Spurs supporters will love what he said.

“That’s why I decided to come out at half-time, as we also have an important home game with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday against Fulham,” Romero is quoted as saying.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News:

“I think people who think he cares more about playing for Argentina than Tottenham need to rethink that because I think that is rubbish.

“Well done to Romero, because he is thinking about his job and he is thinking about his club, and he also realises to play for Argentina regularly, he has to play for Tottenham regularly. He is 25, he is a World Cup winner, and now he wants to be a winner with Tottenham.

“However, I think a lot of that is also down to the manager, I think his way of thinking means he is telling the players before they go on international duty that he wants them to come back 100 per cent focused on Tottenham, and that Fulham is the game to focus on.”

In other Tottenham news, another defender at the club endured a tricky time while away on international duty.
