Cristian Romero injury update emerges after Tottenham fans backlash
Tottenham defender Cristian Romero sparked major backlash on social media after it was announced he would feature in the upcoming Argentina squad.
The 26-year-old has not featured for Spurs since the 4-3 loss to Chelsea on 8 December due to a thigh injury, but he has returned to training in a huge boost for Ange Postecoglou.
However, the news that he has been called up to the national team squad for the international break later this month for matches with Uruguay and Brazil left Tottenham supporters enraged.
Some fans even urged the North London club to block the call-up, accusing the former Atalanta star of prioritising his country.

Romero update emerges for Tottenham
Despite the outrage, Spurs are understood to have permitted the decision, according to a report from The Telegraph.
The report [3 March] claims that the defender could feature for Postecoglou’s side in their next four matches between international duty starts in a hugely encouraging injury update.
That would include both legs of the Europa League round of 16 clashes with AZ Alkmaar and the Premier League matches against Bournemouth and Fulham.

Tottenham get Romero boost
Having the World Cup winner back for those Europa League games could be crucial for Spurs’ hopes of ending their trophy drought.
The Lilywhites have not won a trophy since the EFL Cup triumph in 2008 and were eliminated from both domestic cups in the space of four days earlier this year, which ramped up the pressure on Postecoglou.

That pressure has subsided a little but Europe represents the only real chance at success after a brutal campaign for the former Celtic boss, and if the North Londoners do not win that tournament, he could be under fire again.
If the vice-captain can feature in the latter stages, it increases Spurs’ chances of winning the competition massively as he is the best defender at the club and a leader at the back. Indeed, his presence has been sorely missed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The only concern may be that he reinjures himself, so the club may play it safe and ease him back to action but the update is an encouraging one, to say the least.
