Chris Sutton underwhelmed by what he has seen at Tottenham ahead of Man United clash

Chris Sutton has had his say as Tottenham prepare to face Man United.

Tottenham secured a 4-0 win against Copenhagen in the Champions League last time out, but their league form has been ropey to say the least.

Thomas Frank’s side have picked up just two wins from their last six Premier League encounters, with their latest ending in a 1-0 defeat at home to Chelsea.

Man United travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and Sutton can only see one thing happening.

Tottenham vs Man United prediction made

Saturday’s clash in North London will be a battle between last season’s two biggest underperformers, with Spurs having finished 17th in the Premier League, and Man United just four points above in 15th.

Once again, domestic form has been a struggle for both sides this season, though Tottenham sit fifth in the table after 10 games, having picked up five wins in that time.

Tottenham have generally struggled for goals under Frank, while the Red Devils are just starting to find their feet under Ruben Amorim, leaving Sutton with only one option for his prediction this weekend.

Via BBC Sport, he said: “It’s hard to know how to view Tottenham at the moment, especially at home, where they have been pretty underwhelming in the Premier League so far.

“They did beat Copenhagen comfortably there in the Champions League on Tuesday, but it is still hard to make a case for them to overcome Manchester United because I am not really sure where their goals are going to come from.

“Tottenham beat United four times last season, including in the Europa League final. This time? If I had to pick a winner, I would actually back United, but I don’t – so I am going for a draw.”

Sutton went on to predict a 1-1 draw in North London, which is a result that probably favours the visitors given the struggles that Spurs have showcased at home.

Tottenham vs Man United head-to-head

These two sides have faced off against each other 205 times, dating all the way back to 1899.

It took Tottenham just two attempts to secure their first victory, and have since gone on to win 58, with the Red Devils securing 96 wins.

More recently, Spurs have had the better luck in these encounters, with Man United winless since 2022, when Fred and Bruno Fernandes were on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win.

Last time out, Tottenham beat Man United 1-0 in the Europa League final, and while the performance may not have been their best, they would undoubtedly take the same outcome this weekend.
