Celtic appoint former Tottenham manager as one-year deal agreed

Celtic have hired former Tottenham manager David Pleat to their scouting team, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The 80-year-old, who had two permanent spells and a couple of caretaker stints at Spurs, has reportedly agreed terms on a 12-month deal to work as part of the Hoops’ network in England.

Pleat departed the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year after working as a consultant scout for the club for 14 years.

Pleat was a very popular figure at Spurs, where he helped to bring the likes of Dele Alli, Jan Verthonghen, and Ben Davies to North London.

Upon leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he conducted an interview with The Telegraph in which he criticised Daniel Levy for focusing too much on data-led scouting.

“Daniel Levy called me in and said, ‘you know it’s all data driven now, we don’t need eyes and ears’. What a nonsense. I didn’t argue. He’s in charge.

“Actually, I have huge respect for him. The legacy of the new stadium and training ground will always be there. That is all down to him and his drive.

“Although they’ve won nothing for years.”

Pleat will always be a highly respected figure at Spurs, especially for his commitment to the cause in finding new talent for almost 15 years.

The fact he is returning to work at the ripe old age of 80 is testament to the fact that he just lives and breathes football, and Celtic will know they are getting a man with a keen eye for talent.
