Cascarino blasts Postecoglou sack news as unsettling Tottenham rumours emerge
Tony Cascarino fears that Ange Postecoglou’s time could be up at Tottenham Hotspur after new developments in North London.
Postecoglou’s second season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been one to forget on three of the four fronts the Lilywhites are competing in, with only the Europa League left to play for this term.
Tottenham currently languish 14th in the Premier League, were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round, and having reached the EFL Cup semi-finals, were smashed 4-1 by Liverpool on aggregate.
Upcoming European ties with Eintracht Frankfurt – and potentially Bodo/Glimt or Lazio beyond – could make the difference in Postecoglou keeping his job, but Tottenham are already set to make a decision.

Cascarino fears “ultimate outcome” for Postescoglou at Tottenham
Postecoglou’s job security is understandably hanging by a thread heading into the home straight of a disappointing season, and Daniel Levy is eyeing up potential replacements should he be shown the door.
Competition | Games | Won | Drawn | Lost | Scored | Conceded | Win Rate |
Premier League | 29 | 10 | 4 | 15 | 55 | 43 | 34.5% |
EFL Cup | 5 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 9 | 9 | 80% |
FA Cup | 2 | 1 (aet) | 0 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 50% |
Europa League | 10 | 6 | 2 | 2 | 20 | 11 | 60% |
Total | 46 | 21 | 6 | 19 | 88 | 65 | 45.65% |
Speaking on talkSPORT (23 March, 9:40am), Tony Cascarino was asked if the only way for Postecoglou to save himself at Tottenham is to go all the way in the Europa League, ahead of facing Frankfurt.
“It feels that way”, Cascarino said; “and whether you agree it’s right or wrong, it feels that that’s going to be the ultimate outcome.
“We’ve heard rumours in midweek of a list being [compiled]; Ange will have had two seasons, and that’s a long time – this year’s been hugely disappointing, really has been.
“I think if they go out of the European competition, they will only have one outcome – I don’t think Ange will get a third season.”

Writing on the wall for Postecoglou at Tottenham
Postecoglou’s job riding on Tottenham’s progression – and ultimately success – in the Europa League suggests that the chances of the Australian still being in post next season are very slim indeed.
Tottenham’s lack of silverware given their stature in English football is often used as a stick to beat them with, and Postecoglou’s statement that he always wins a trophy in his second season has not helped.
Spurs have already had the chance to claim silverware this term in the form of the EFL Cup, the last trophy they won back in 2008, yet produced arguably their worst display of the season against Liverpool.
Whether Spurs will be able to progress past Frankfurt and beyond in Europe remains to be seen, but it’s clear that if Postecoglou fails to succeed on the continent, his time at Tottenham could well be up.
