Bryan Mbeumo makes Tottenham transfer decision – Ornstein

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has been linked with a move to Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Despite signing plenty of attackers over the last two windows, Spurs are still eyeing more reinforcements in this transfer window.

Mbeumo, who has impressed at Brighton, scoring 42 goals in 136 Premier League appearances for the Bees, is on their radar.

Mbeumo picks Manchester United over Spurs and Forest

According to David Ornstein (2 June), the 25-year-old has made a decision to move to United this summer.

The Red Devils are his preference despite Tottenham being able to offer him Champions League football.

Spurs beat United in the Europa League final to achieve that feat, but they will miss out to them in the race to sign the Brentford winger.

Newcastle too, who secured Champions League qualification, will have to look elsewhere.

United are now expected to open talks with Brentford in the bid to sign him this summer.

Arsenal, despite being title challengers and being in Europe’s elite club competition, will not be able to secure his services.

Tottenham must first make Ange Postecoglou’s sack decision and then sign players

Missing out on Mbeumo is a setback for Tottenham, as his pace, directness and versatility would have perfectly suited their attacking system.

Failure to sign him still leaves a gap in Spurs’ wide options, especially with Son Heung-min’s inconsistent form and Richarlison’s injury concerns.

However, the more pressing issue is resolving Postecoglou’s future.

With speculation about his tenure due to inconsistent results, Tottenham must either back him unequivocally or act swiftly to appoint a successor.

If a new manager is chosen, names like Simone Inzaghi or Thomas Frank could align with Spurs’ progressive ambitions.

The club must then prioritise signings tailored to the incoming manager’s style – dynamic wingers or robust midfielders – to bolster creativity.

Delaying these decisions risks a disjointed transfer window, undermining Tottenham’s top-four aspirations and fan confidence in a transformative rebuild.
