Bernardo Silva the king of irony after what he’s said about former Tottenham favourite

Tottenham fans will be shaking their heads at what Bernardo Silva has said about a former Spurs star.

Tottenham have already encountered Silva on their pitch in Spurs’ win over Manchester City in the Premier League.

Palhinha showed precisely why Tottenham signed him from Bayern Munich over the summer, while Brennan Johnson put up the same goalscoring display fans have grown to love.

However, most supporters will be raising an eyebrow at the Portuguese attacker’s latest observation.

Bernardo Silva pokes fun at Eric Dier for ‘diving’

Eric Dier joined Bayern Munich from Spurs on a permanent move in the summer of 2024 after a successful loan spell at the German club.

This comes after Harry Kane moved to the Bundesliga side in 2023, with there already being suggestions that Kane could leave Bayern to rejoin Tottenham this summer.

The defensive-minded player transferred to Ligue 1 side Monaco over the summer, with his second UEFA Champions League game with the club ending in a 2-2 draw to City.

Dier won and scored a last-minute penalty for the French side, to which Silva joked to TNT Sports on 1 October, was a result of a dive.

He said: “I would have to watch it now….Dier, he’s known for diving.”

The jest from Silva was an ironic one, given he was close to becoming the first Premier League player to be retrospectively charged for diving in 2017.

This came after a 3-0 win for City over Burnley, where Sergio Aguero netted an opening penalty, won by Silva, after Nick Pope was judged to have caught his right foot after poking the ball away.

While former Burnley boss Sean Dyche claimed the Man City star had “cheated”, a three-person panel deemed he was not guilty of simulation.

The iconic Bryan Mbeumo incident

Tottenham fans have been on the receiving end of several dive attempts from opposing players, but none as iconic as Bryan Mbeumo.

Indeed, the right-winger attempted to win a penalty for his side from Fraser Forester on 26 December 2022. However, the referee was quick to show him a yellow for simulation.

While almost three years ago, the Mbeumo incident is still fresh in the minds of Spurs supporters.
