Bentancur update: Postecoglou reveals how long Tottenham star is ruled out

Ange Postecoglou has shared that Tottenham ace Rodrigo Bentancur is “okay” after the injury he sustained against Liverpool on Wednesday.

The midfielder seemed to fall to the floor in the semi-final of their Carabao Cup tie after knocking his head during a Liverpool corner and was immediately taken off the pitch.

Postecoglou explained Bentancur did suffer a concussion and the Uruguay international is set to spend a “couple of weeks out”.

“Good news. He was in hospital, he did all the tests in terms of making sure everything is okay,” he said via Tottenham’s Official X account (10 January).

“Yes, all good. He is back home and is fine and feeling good. We will obviously follow the protocol.

“It’s obviously a couple of weeks [out] where you just make sure everything is okay. Thankfully, it looks like a concussion but nothing more than that.”

Tottenham will be thankful for the positive update on Rodrigo Bentancur

When the replays of Bentancur’s injury were shown it was an extremely worrying moment for all involved and there was a lot of concern for his welfare.

So it is a huge relief to hear the 27-year-old is recovering well and come be back on the pitch once concussion protocols are followed.

The midfielder has already spent a hefty amount of time on the sidelines this season due to the ban he had to face for the remarks about Tottenham teammate Son Heung-min.

At the moment, Spurs are going through a pretty hefty injury crisis and while the absence of Bentancur is problematic, it will be a relief for the boss that he won’t be out for an extended period.

The Australian’s job is on the line at the moment with the former Celtic boss scrapping for every point and victory he can get in order to save his job.

Upon Bentancur’s return, it’s likely that he’ll be slotted straight back into the first team and be a key figure in Spurs’ engine room.
