BBC pundit reacts as Postecoglou sack news emerges ahead of Tottenham v Frankfurt

Ange Postecoglou is feeling the heat as Tottenham appear to be falling to new lows each week domestically.

They have lost 17 out of 32 Premier League games and find themselves in danger of finishing as low as 17th.

However, Postecoglou still retains the support of the hierarchy as he’s not been sacked ahead of the second leg clash in the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Clinton Morrison issues verdict on Postecoglou sack

Spurs decided not to sack the Australian after the 4-2 defeat against Wolves as they’re still competing in Europe.

They’re a win away from making it to the semi-finals of the Europa League and will fancy their chances to win the trophy.

However, Clinton Morrison believes that if they are to lose on Thursday night, it will be curtains for the Lilywhites boss.

Postecoglou’s record at Spurs this season.

He has lambasted Postecoglou for hiding behind injuries and admits that he’ll have no excuses left should they get knocked out of Europe.

Morrison told Premier League Review: “Nowhere near Tottenham are good enough and Frankfurt are the favorites. It’s 1-1, you go into Frankfurt, I’ll make a statement here.

“If they don’t win on Thursday, I don’t think Ange will be in a job on Saturday. That’s how much the place is toxic at the moment. You can’t buy a win at the moment.

“What excuses is he going to make? ‘Oh, I’ve still got 10 or 11 of my best players injured’? No, all your players are back, and you’re still not getting results. It’s nowhere near good enough.”

Tottenham must sack Postecoglou right after full-time if they lose

If Tottenham are knocked out by Frankfurt in the Europa League, Daniel Levy should announce Postecoglou’s sacking immediately after the full-time whistle.

Levy, known for his ruthless streak with managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho, has shown uncharacteristic patience with Postecoglou, despite a lack of tangible results.

Spurs’ inconsistent 2024-25 season, languishing in 15th in the Premier League, underscores Postecoglou’s failure to deliver.

His high-pressing, expansive style has left Spurs vulnerable and seem to be conceding goals for fun. Postecoglou’s signings, like Archie Gray, have underperformed, and his refusal to adapt defensively has alienated fans.

A Frankfurt defeat would confirm Postecoglou’s inability to compete at the elite level, necessitating an immediate sacking to salvage Spurs’ season and appease a frustrated fanbase.
