Arsenal emergency meeting recalled in ‘Crazy’ Postecoglou & Tottenham verdict
Martin Keown has recalled an emergency meeting at Arsenal as he urges Ange Postecoglou to consider changes at Tottenham.
The Lilywhites are in poor form, having won just one of their last five Premier League games after a 1-0 defeat away at Nottingham Forest.
Their current run has led to criticism of Postecoglou who, despite having defensive injuries, has stuck by his playing style even when it hasn’t produced results.
Writing in The Daily Mail Sport (28 December, page 7), Keown urged that a change could be necessary as he said: “I respect Postecoglou for trying to change the culture of the club and, in a way, it is admirable that he is so bullish in backing his high-energy philosophy.
“I remember when Arsene Wenger arrived at Arsenal with an ‘attack, attack, attack’ approach. As a defender I was saying, whoa, hold on, let’s show some restraint and strike a balance here.
“We even had an emergency meeting about it early in 1997-98, a season in which we went on to be crowned Champions.
“But Tottenham seem a world away from striking that balance.”
Ange Postecoglou has to change something at Tottenham
As Keown says, there is a level of respect to be had for the Australian who is passionate about trying to bring a style of football to the club and change things at Tottenham.
However, it seems bizarre that this is something the manager is continuing to push on with so stubbornly despite clear indicators that it’s not working for them and actually impacting their form negatively.
With so many defensive injuries, surely the 59-year-old needs to be weighing up his priorities at this moment in time and ensure his side are getting points on the board above anything else.

Keown’s example of Wenger shows it is possible to play an attacking, free-flowing style while still keeping organisation in the side but this is something that Postecoglou seems to be struggling to implement.
Perhaps it is up to the senior players in the squad to be similar to their rivals for once and create an opportunity to discuss how the club progresses.
In other Tottenham news, Massimiliano Allegri could be set to turn the tide in North London as pressure on Postecoglou continues to increase.
