Archie Gray sends message as gutting early retirement confirmed

Archie Gray has spoken out after news emerged surrounding an early retirement away from Tottenham.

Despite the woes throughout the current campaign, Gray has remained the shining light for Tottenham on and off the pitch.

Throughout his short career to date, the talented youngster has earned the attention of players all around the world, having built up relationships in his time at Leeds and while being away in England.

However, one of his former teammates has confirmed he has been forced to retire early due to cardiac problems, with Gray reacting to the news.

Gray ex-teammate forced into early retirement

Now thriving at Tottenham, Gray rose through the ranks at Leeds United before bursting onto the scene at senior level prior to his move to North London.

Throughout that time, Morten Spencer was playing alongside him, but unfortunate news emerged over the last 24 hours confirming that the 21-year-old has had to hang up his boots in a “heartbroken” post shared on Instagram, to which Gray replied.

His comment reads “All the best mate,” followed by a love heart emoji.

Spencer was never able to break through into the first team at Elland Road before joining Derby County, though the news of his retirement has been met with reaction from his former teammates all around the country.

Tottenham must be wary of youth development

Spencer’s retirement is not only heartbreaking, but truly unfortunate.

While it is unlikely to have been affected by his football, it showcases that young players need to be managed well, and Tottenham need to be aware of that.

Gray himself has played a lot of football this season, and given his age, there are risks that come hand in hand with that that need to be acknowledged.

As we approach the final run-in, Tottenham’s only focus will be on achieving success via the Europa League to not only end their trophy drought, but to also secure some form of European football for the new campaign.

A failure to do that would be hugely detrimental to any future ambitions in North London.
