Ange Postecoglou’s instant three-word verdict on Tottenham sacking Thomas Frank
Ange Postecoglou has uttered his first words on Thomas Frank’s Tottenham sacking.
Postecoglou led Tottenham to Europa League glory last May, but that wasn’t enough to save his job as he paid the price for a 17th-placed Premier League finish.
Tottenham then swooped for Brentford boss Frank as his successor after a hugely successful stint at the Bees between 2018 and 2025.
And while the Dane’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium began brightly, as Spurs hit the top four in the division, they have been on a steady decline ever since.
Frank was given his marching orders on Wednesday morning after a dismal 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United and now, Postecoglou has given a brief initial assessment of the news.

Postecoglou wasn’t out of work long, however, with Nottingham Forest snapping him up on a two-year deal after Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure last September.
But the Australian lasted just eight games at City Ground, with the ex-Celtic boss drawing two and losing six during a sorry Nottingham stint.
Postecoglou has been linked with a return to Tottenham amid the club’s struggles this season and when news of Frank’s dismissal was announced, the Stick to Football cast were about to start recording an episode with the former Australia national team manager.
As the rest of the crew reacted to the Frank news, Postecoglou was heard saying, “Some timing, eh?” The episode will be released on Thursday morning, to much anticipation.
Show host Gary Neville revealed that Postecoglou’s guest appearance was brought forward a week, on the back of the breaking Tottenham news.
The Overlap’s X account then tweeted: “Grab the popcorn, we’ll see you tomorrow!”
Many football fans will be on the edge of their seats to hear what Postecoglou, who had two seasons at Tottenham, has to say on the matter.
Frank’s Brentford brilliance doesn’t translate at Tottenham
When Frank took over at Championship side Brentford in 2018, as Dean Smith left for Aston Villa, little was known about him.
But he, arguably, went on to become Brentford’s best-ever manager as they earned promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and he turned them into a mid-table top-flight side.
However, when he was at the Bees, Frank was at a very well-run club, with a clear identity, and there was much less media attention on him.
Brentford were a relatively low-possession side, but that would have to change for him to succeed at Tottenham.

Many suspected Brentford would struggle when Frank left, but his set-piece coach Keith Andrews is on course to guide them to their best-ever Premier League finish.
Meanwhile, Frank’s Tottenham were listless, often struggled to create meaningful chances, and in the en,d they won just two of 13 home league games. They lacked an identity, and he was unable to turn the tide.
It appears that the head coach at Brentford is just another part of a successful cog, but Tottenham are not as well run as their London neighbours, and the Dane was not up to the task.
