Ange Postecoglou to ‘lose his job’ as Shearer hits out at Tottenham excuses
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou can have “no excuses” for the 2-1 loss to Leicester on Sunday, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have said.
Spurs were beaten by the relegation-threatened strugglers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 26 January, a result which increases the pressure on the Australian.
The Lilywhites have now won just one of their last 11 Premier League matches and are just eight points off the relegation zone, with Shearer saying Postecoglou will lose his job if he doesn’t start winning games soon.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast (27 January, 9:15), Shearer said: “When you’re playing a team that is in the bottom three and you’re 1-0 up at home at half-time, but you end up in the second-half being beaten, you can’t keep harping back to injuries.
“He knows what the game is about, he knows that he is under huge pressure and if they don’t win pretty soon then ultimately you know what happens, you lose your job.”
Richards agreed, saying: “I think I would agree with Alan on this one, I mentioned on last week’s pod about the amount of injuries that Spurs had but if you look at the players that played today they’ve got enough to win that game, there is no excuses this time round.”
Postecoglou under severe pressure at Tottenham
After the 3-2 loss to Everton, Richards had given his sympathy to the former Celtic manager due to the injury crisis in North London.
The Australian has been without Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Destiny Udogie among others for a significant period of the season.
However, they should have had enough to beat a Foxes team that has only picked up eight points away from home this season.

Postecoglou is likely going to be given the chance to take the club into the EFL Cup final but a loss against Liverpool on 6 February could be the final straw.
Daniel Levy could pull the trigger on a potential departure if the 59-year-old fails to maintain the 1-0 lead from the semi-final first-leg.
It would be a harsh dismissal given the injuries and the lack of signings in the winter transfer window but results have simply not been good enough for a club of Spurs’ stature.
In other Tottenham news, Paul Merson has sent the Spurs fans a warning over Postecoglou’s future.
