Ange Postecoglou to be ‘given statue’ at Tottenham after developments

Ange Postecoglou could well be on track to win a trophy in his second season with Tottenham, just as he promised.

The Lilywhites beat Bodo Glimt 2-0 on Thursday (8 May), to win 5-1 on aggregate and progress through to the Europa League final.

In a season where there have been plenty of questions over the future of Postecoglou, a game against Manchester United is all that is separating Spurs from finally getting their hands on a trophy.

Jamie O’Hara hails Postecoglou after Tottenham victory

While his side may have found success in the Europa League, there is no doubt that this season has not been good enough in North London.

Spurs currently sit 17th in the Premier League table and are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top five.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise that there has been speculation over Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham, with a sacking coming incredibly close at times.

Even if he does guide his side to getting their hands on silverware in the final weeks of the season, there have been suggestions that this will not be enough to keep him in his role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

When a Manchester United fan rang into talkSPORT (8 May, 22:10) to say that everyone knows that Postecoglou is leaving Spurs, Jamie O’Hara was quick to shut that down.

The Tottenham supporter replied: “What do you mean? He’s not going anywhere, mate, he’s not going anywhere.”

O’Hara then went on to wind the United supporter up as he joked: “He’s got a statue coming outside the ground, mate, if we win this European final.”

Daniel Levy has a big call to make at Tottenham

Had Tottenham fallen at an earlier hurdle in their Europa League run, it would have been a fairly simple decision for Daniel Levy to part ways with the boss.

Furthermore, if the Lilywhites are unable to get past Manchester United in the final of the competition, then Postecoglou will likely be set for an exit, still.

However, even if Tottenham do go on to win the competition, Levy will have a big decision to make when it comes to the direction that he wants to take going forward.

Postecoglou certainly hasn’t done enough in the Premier League to justify extending his stay based on that form alone, but winning this trophy would lead Spurs to Champions League football next season, which is an impressive success.

Furthermore, with several injuries holding his side back this season, arguably a full season with some backing in the summer transfer window could push the boss on.

However, if Levy stands by the Australian and he fails to up the standards domestically, the chief will be left with no idea where to turn.
