Ange Postecoglou speaks out after being sacked by Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou hasn’t wasted any time reacting to his Tottenham departure.

Questions surrounding the manager have dominated the discourse around North London for the last few weeks, with Tottenham finally confirming Postecoglou’s departure on Friday (6 June).

Thomas Frank is hotly expected to replace the outgoing Australian, who will leave the club as just the third manager to deliver a European trophy to the Lilywhites.

His defiant speech during the trophy parade showed that the 59-year-old was keen to remain in the Spurs dugout. However, having been made aware of his destiny, Postecoglou has promptly released a statement.

Postecoglou proud after time with Tottenham

Postecoglou’s relationship with his players never wavered despite the poor results, with plenty of members of the squad publicly backing the Australian in recent weeks.

Fans have been less united, having bemoaned the dreadful results and abject performances in the Premier League this season.

However, the sentiment changed following the Europa League triumph, with Postecoglou’s recent statement shared by Fabrizio Romano on ‘X’ (6 June) likely to pull on plenty of heartstrings.

Postecoglou wrote, “When I reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur, my overriding emotion is one of pride.

“The opportunity to lead one of England’s historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime.

“Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget. That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream.”

The former Celtic boss went on to thank plenty of members of the Tottenham family before concluding with, “We are forever connected. Audere est Facere.”

The risk of sacking a man as popular as Postecoglou will only augment the pressure on Daniel Levy’s shoulders to prove that this potentially unpopular decision is the right one.

Postecoglou leaves as a legend at Tottenham

Postecoglou arrived to a scene of turmoil in North London, with the Lilywhites having gone through a messy period with Antonio Conte and on the precipice of losing their icon Harry Kane.

The experienced manager steadied the ship, bringing in young players and adopting an attacking style of play, which brought the club back to Europe with a 5th-place finish in his first season.

This campaign has not gone to plan, with plenty of road bumps along the way, but he nevertheless guided Tottenham to one of its most memorable nights, ensuring his picture will remain on the walls in the stadium forever.
