Ange Postecoglou shares timeline for Bryan Gil return – ‘the future of Tottenham’

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that winger Bryan Gil will step up his return to training with Tottenham over “the next couple of weeks,” in quotes reported by Football London.

The online news publication shared the 58-year-old’s quotes (29 September) from his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool clash on Saturday (30 September), during which he touched on Gil’s fitness and what the winger can bring to the team.

Postecoglou said: “He’s been a bit unfortunate in that pretty much since the start of pre-season he’s had a couple of injuries that haven’t allowed him to train with the team.

“He had a good year last year away from here and he certainly plays in a position where guys with his attributes can certainly fit into our structure.

“It’ll be good to see Bryan getting up to speed over the next couple of weeks, training with the team and then, obviously with Ivan (Perisic) going down, we’re one down in those wide areas so having him at the club is certainly beneficial.”

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News:

“Gil is a hell of a talent, he could be the future of Tottenham. If the manager is speaking about him in that way then he will obviously be very happy when he does come back from injury.

“I think it is a plus because he is a young player and he can only benefit the side in the future. You’ve got Son Heung-min and Richarlison and a lot of chances are created for them from players in wide positions and if the service is good, the two strikers have got half a chance.

“He is certainly a player for the bench, but then again you look at teams and the number of games they play, you never know what will happen regarding injuries, so I think the more decent players you have within your squad the stronger you are going to be.

“If the manager likes Gil, that can only be a bonus for him.”
