Ange Postecoglou sack ‘surely sealed at Tottenham’ after Daniel Levy meeting

Ange Postecoglou is fighting for his future at Tottenham, but Daniel Levy’s demands might make a long-term stay impossible for the Australian.

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League after their 2-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday (16 March).

Following that loss, one fan called for Son Heung-min to have his contract terminated as footage emerged from the defeat in West London.

However, Spurs’ captain wasn’t the only one to feel the fury of the fans, as Postecoglou clashed with a Spurs supporter on his way down the tunnel at Craven Cottage.

This only adds to the feeling that Postecoglou being sacked is now surely a matter of when, not if, and details of a recent meeting with Levy seem to all but confirm that the 59-year-old will be relieved of his duties.

Levy lays out minimum requirement for Postecoglou

Several managers could take over from Postecoglou, including Mauricio Pochettino, who could seal a sensational Spurs return.

Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva are also candidates to take over at Tottenham, although Postecoglou will of course be looking to remain in the job ahead of next season.

However, that looks increasingly difficult after TBR Football reported on Monday (17 March) that Levy has informed Postecoglou that he expects Tottenham to qualify for Europe next season as a minimum requirement.

The Spurs chairman is understood to have met with Postecoglou in recent weeks to discuss what he expects between now and the end of the season.

And if that is the minimum requirement for Postecogou to keep his job, the former Celtic manager’s sacking is surely now all but sealed at Spurs.

Postecoglou’s days surely numbered at Tottenham

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League and 11 points off the top eight after their defeat to Fulham. As a result, it is hard to see how they quality for Europe based on their final league position.

That leaves the UEFA Europa League as the club’s only route into continental competition next season. However, based on their recent performances and the general mood around Spurs, it is difficult to see Postecoglou leading a club that hasn’t won a trophy in 17 years to success in the Europa League.

Therefore, it looks as though Postecoglou’s sacking might be all but sealed, and it could now just be a matter of time until Levy is once again on the lookout for his next permanent manager.
