Ange Postecoglou immediately gestures at Tottenham fans in ugly scenes v Chelsea
Ange Postecoglou is increasingly at odds with the Tottenham fans as Spurs succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea on Thursday.
Tottenham’s winless run in the Premier League stretched to four games after Enzo Fernandez’s second-half goal gave Chelsea all three points at Stamford Bridge on 3 April.
It could have been worse for Spurs as Moises Caicedo had a goal disallowed minutes after Fernandez’s opener, with the VAR deeming Levi Colwill offside after a four-minute delay.
That left the door open for the North London giants to try and grab an equaliser, which they thought they did after Pape Matar Sarr scored from 30 yards out in the 69th minute, only for VAR to intervene again.

However, Postecoglou did not wait for VAR to confirm if the goal was valid or not as he gestured at the Tottenham fans as soon as the ball hit the back of the net.
The supporters had booed his decision to replace Lucas Bergvall with Sarr five minutes earlier, and he took the opportunity to hit back at them after the goal, only to be egg-faced seconds later.
Team | Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goal Difference | Points |
6. Chelsea | 30 | 15 | 7 | 8 | 17 | 52 |
14. Tottenham | 30 | 10 | 4 | 16 | 11 | 34 |
The Athletic’s Spurs correspondent Jack Pitt-Brooke spotted the Greek-Australian manager cupping his hand to his ear after Sarr found the back of the net from distance.
He was also seen waving at the Tottenham fans.
Not only did Postecoglou look foolish after the goal was disallowed, but he is also certain to lose the support of more fans after what he did.

Daniel Levy must sack Postecoglou now
The defeat at Stamford Bridge was Tottenham’s 16th Premier League loss of the season, making it worse than their record in the 2008-09 campaign.
Postecoglou is therefore out of excuses and must be sacked with immediate effect.
With only eight games left to play, it is understandable why Daniel Levy may want to wait until the end of the season to make a decision regarding the former Celtic boss.
However, considering the team’s results as well as Postecoglou’s antics and attitude towards the fans, Levy should not hesitate to pull the plug on the manager.
