Ange Postecoglou doomed at Tottenham after mega-money player sale

Ange Postecoglou has had a difficult season at Tottenham but a player sale meant he was doomed from the start.

The Australian has come under heavy pressure throughout the campaign in North London as Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites’ head coach’s year was summed up by a 4-2 defeat against Wolves on Sunday (13 April), where even Lucas Bergvall was off the boil.

Although there have been multiple positive moments under Postecoglou, the exact point where everything went downhill has been pinpointed.

Ben Foster reveals where it went wrong for Postecoglou at Tottenham

There is plenty going wrong for the ex-Celtic boss in N17 that have hampered any progress being made this campaign.

It is fair to say that the Aussie has been let down at different points but has made some faults of his own that haven’t helped.

With that being said, Foster believes that Postecoglou was always going to struggle at Spurs, no matter what he did when he came in.

The sale of Harry Kane left his side reeling from the loss of their best player, who is irreplaceable for his ability and place in the side.

Speaking on the Football Fill-In (15 April), the former Manchester United keeper has shared his reasoning behind the 59-year-old’s failures.

He said: “Do you want me to tell you where it all went wrong for Spurs? It’s the moment Harry Kane left because he’s a world-class player.

“The second you sell a world-class player, unless you can replace them with another world-class player, whoever you bring in is going to be a massive drop off.

“Dominic Solanke is an excellent player, but he’ll never get the numbers of Harry Kane, nobody will replicate that. The mental cost to Tottenham of confidence being dropped and having this figure to drag you through.”

Postecoglou missing Kane influence at Tottenham

Although the England captain never played under Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his departure has had a negative impact.

The 31-year-old was electric for 10 years in North London, scoring over 270 goals before eventually leaving for Bayern Munich in 2023.

Kane has continued that electric form in the Bundesliga and looks to be on course to win his first career trophy under Vincent Kompany.

With that being said, Tottenham have just continued to get worse without the forward, with the Australian head coach bearing the brunt of his departure.

This could ultimately result in Postecoglou facing the sack after a failed season in a job which he seemed to be doomed before he had even started.
