Ange Postecoglou delivers Son injury update ahead of Liverpool v Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has delivered a concerning injury update on Tottenham captain Son Heung-min.

Postecoglou is days away from arguably the biggest game of his career when Spurs host Bodø/Glimt in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May).

However, ahead of that is the small matter of a Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday (27 April), where Postecoglou is expected to make three changes.

Tottenham’s chances of victory against Liverpool are minute, and the latest update on Son certainly hasn’t boosted those chances.

Son ruled out of Liverpool as update emerges for Bodø/Glimt

It has been a difficult season for Tottenham, with Postecoglou expected to pay the price.

Therefore, the Australian will be keen to end a disappointing campaign on a high, and beating Liverpool at Anfield would certainly provide plenty of confidence ahead of the Europa League semi-final.

However, it looks as though that task has become more difficult after Postecoglou ruled Son out of the clash with the Reds, while sharing an update on whether the Spurs captain will be fit for the first leg clash with Bodø/Glimt.

Speaking ahead of the clash at Anfield, Postecoglou said, “Sonny is improving, which is a positive for us, not for Sunday. Everyone else from the last game is fine.”

When asked if the 32-year-old would be ready for the Europa League, Postecoglou responded, “We’ll see. First time on the grass today and he said it felt better.”

Postecoglou needs Son to be fit again at Tottenham

Son has been nowhere near his best for Tottenham this season.

However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that the South Korean is an important player to have on the pitch, as he is one of the few Spurs forwards who can win a game on his own.

Therefore, while he isn’t the Son of old, Postecoglou will no doubt still be keen to have the winger as an option for Spurs’ biggest game of the season.
