Ange Postecoglou decision ‘bizarre’ as Tottenham manager torn apart live on air

Darren Bent has torn apart Ange Postecoglou’s “bizarre” decisions as Tottenham suffered a shock loss to Everton on Sunday.

With Spurs troubled by an eye-watering number of injuries so far this season, Postecoglou lined up with a back-three of Ben Davies, Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray before losing 3-2 on 19 January.

Goodison Park was absolutely rocking as David Moyes claimed his first win since returning as manager, with the Lilywhites aiming daggers at their leading figure following an embarrassing defeat.

Speaking live via talkSPORT [20 January, 4:12pm], Bent said: “Spurs caused themselves problems and I think Postecoglou needs to take some of the blame for playing three at the back when they have players on the pitch to go four at the back.

“He tried something different but played the same way which was bizarre. That surprised me because he’s trying a new system but he’s playing the same way. I think he can do more and the players need to take ownership of their performances.”

Ange Postecoglou under increasing pressure over Tottenham sack

Supporters have every right to voice their frustrations, especially after taking the lengthy trip up to Merseyside, and their opinions are louder than ever following the defeat.

Postecoglou is often criticised for his lack of ambition to change tactics, with things continuing to go south in North London, but he will feel as though a change in attack has now been attempted.

Fans will not feel the same way, though. While the formation changed, it only led to more problems as Spurs attempted to play exactly the same way, a style which has seen them fall to 15th in the Premier League table.

While relegation seems an almost impossible eventuality for the Lilywhites, just two teams separated Postecoglou’s side from the dropzone, and that is a scary position to be in.

It remains to be seen what changes need to be made if Spurs are to climb back up the Premier League table, but the current trend continues, Daniel Levy will pull the trigger on his future in North London.

In other Tottenham news, Sean Dyche has emerged as a shock contender to replace Postecoglou after the Everton upset.
