Likely outcome of Andrew Robertson crunch talks with Arne Slot revealed after Tottenham transfer news

Andy Robertson’s January move to Tottenham would be a fantastic deal for all parties.

Tottenham are interested in signing Robertson, and they expect to complete a deal before the transfer deadline on 2 February.

Advanced negotiations have begun with Robertson, and Spurs have already placed a formal bid for the Scotland international.

The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool due to the arrival of summer signing Milos Kerkez.

As a result, he is eyeing up a move away from Anfield, and Tony Cascarino believes that conversations with manager Arne Slot have impacted his decision.

Arne Slot can’t give Andy Robertson is the game time he needs

Although the left-back has only started four times in the top flight this season, he still has the qualities both on and off the pitch that Tottenham desperately need.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 25 January, Cascarino believes that Robertson‘s move to Spurs is due to conversations he has had with Slot.

He said: “I don’t see why Liverpool would sell him. Robertson might have gone to Slot and told him that he can’t guarantee him regular first-team football.

“With the World Cup coming in the summer, he’ll need to be playing regular football.

“If Slot has turned around and said he can’t promise Robertson regular minutes on the pitch, he has a big call to make. I’d imagine that conversation has been had.”

Robertson is desperate to play regularly before he captains Scotland at the World Cup in June, and with Destiny Udogie’s future at Tottenham looking uncertain, the Liverpool man is exactly what Thomas Frank needs.

Spurs have just over a week to get the deal over the line, and if Slot has told Robertson that he shouldn’t expect much game time, then the Scottish defender will be desperate for the move himself.

The left-back position has become an absolute priority for Tottenham

Robertson has been an incredible full-back for the best part of a decade, and the two-time Premier League winner would automatically come into the team.

After a sensational first season in 2023-24, fitness issues and poor form have left Udogie far from his best, and there is speculation that the 23-year-old could leave Spurs in the summer.

In the 2-2 draw with Burnley on Saturday, the Italian was incredibly poor, and it feels as though Spurs have no defensive balance in the wide areas.

Tottenham have just signed Brazilian left-back Souza, although the 19-year-old is certainly viewed as a player for the future.

While Robertson is mainly known for marauding up and down the left flank, he is particularly well-versed in defending one-on-one situations.

Spurs have a huge task on their hands if they want to qualify for European football this season, but there are few better leaders in the country who can get through to the players than Robertson.

Only time will tell if Slot lets his left-back leave in search of regular minutes.
