Ally McCoist wowed by Tottenham star in ‘sticky’ draw v Frankfurt – ‘Beautiful’

Ally McCoist has provided his thoughts on the UEFA Europa League clash between Tottenham and Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.

Spurs endured a frustrating evening as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Frankfurt at home in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on 10 April.

Ange Postecoglou’s men found themselves in trouble after the Bundesliga club took advantage of an error from James Maddison and took the lead through Hugo Ekitike just six minutes into the game.

However, Pedro Porro saved Tottenham from embarrassment by grabbing an equaliser 20 minutes later.

The North London giants went on to dominate Frankfurt for the rest of the game, but to no avail.

Porro stuns McCoist after Europa League goal

Porro deserves credit for the manner in which he found the back of the net, as he neatly flicked a pass from James Maddison past Kaua Santos in the Frankfurt goal.

Blown away by the Tottenham star’s goal, McCoist reserved special praise for him on talkSPORT on Friday morning, describing the finish as “beautiful” and “lovely”.

However, the pundit thought Spurs had a “sticky” start to the game against Frankfurt.

Speaking on talkSPORT (11 April, 6:11 am), McCoist said: “Tottenham, 1-1 at home against Frankfurt. What a beautiful goal that was.

“A lovely Pedro Porro flick drew Spurs level after a sticky start.”

Tottenham face Frankfurt challenge in Germany

Postecoglou will be disappointed with the result, as he would have preferred to approach the second leg in Germany with a lead.

Tottenham will now have to be at their best to earn a win against Frankfurt away from home next Thursday, 17 April.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise if he rested some of his most important players for the Premier League game against Wolves at the Molineux Stadium on Sunday, 13 April.

Postecoglou has no choice but to put all his eggs in one basket at this point.
