Ally McCoist blown away by what he was told about Tottenham live on air
Ally McCoist could not believe the amount of goals that have been scored in games involving Tottenham in their last five home games.
The Premier League clash between Spurs and Newcastle on Saturday (4 January) got off to a quick start with Dominic Solanke and Anthony Gordon scoring for their respective sides in the opening six minutes, with Alexander Isak later scoring the winner in a 2-1 win for the visitors.
After Gordon nullified Solanke’s early opener, commentator Darren Fletcher pointed out that there have been 29 scores in Spurs’ last five home games up until that point.
“The fact that we’ve had two in the opening 10 minutes means that we’ve had 29 goals now in four-and-a-bit matches involving Tottenham Hotspur [at home] and you can see just how many goals there are when these two get together”, Fletcher said on TNT Sports (4 January, 12:40 pm).
McCoist was blown away by the stat and simply replied: “That’s remarkable”.
Ange Postecoglou questions remain as Tottenham loss v Newcastle
Of the 30 goals that have been scored at the Tottenham Stadium, only 13 were scored by Ange Postecoglou’s side.
It is also worth noting that the North London giants only won one of those five games – beating Manchester United 4-3 in the EFL Cup quarter-final on 19 December.
It is evident that Tottenham could certainly do without the stat, which McCoist described as “remarkable”.
Spurs need to be cut some slack for their recent run of form as they try to cope without the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
They were also without Destiny Udogie against Newcastle, meaning they are being stretched thin at the back.
However, Postecoglou has refused to tweak his tactics even amid a major injury crisis in defence.

His persistence on playing a high-intense brand of football with a high line is evidently coming back to haunt him.
With the Greek-Australian manager unlikely to change his ways, Tottenham’s best bet is to enter the transfer market in search of suitable reinforcements.
