Alan Shearer slams what Postecoglou said after Tottenham loss v Arsenal – ‘Not Acceptable’
Alan Shearer slammed Ange Postecoglou live on Match of the Day after he admitted his Tottenham side were not at their best levels against Arsenal.
The Lilywhites took the lead in the North London Derby after 25 minutes through Son Heung-min but came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 result at the Emirates Stadium with a Dominic Solanke own goal and Leandro Trossard effort before half-time doing the damage.
Postecoglou made no secret of his disappointment after the performance as he criticised the Spurs squad for being off it and miles off where they should have been.
Speaking on Match of the Day (15 January, 15:54), Shearer expressed his concerns over the comments, saying: “I would without doubt, if you’re a Tottenham fan you have to be [concerned].
“I know they’ve got injuries to centre-backs and the goalkeeper but you cannot go up against your rivals and have your manager come out at the end of the game and say ‘we weren’t really up [to it], we were nowhere near our levels’, that is not acceptable.
“You can’t go into a game of that magnitude, of that size and not turn up in the first half. They were a little bit better second half but not a lot.”
Pressure mounting on Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
Spurs are in a poor run of form and find themselves sitting 13th in the league, which has led to plenty of criticism over the Australian.
Although the Lilywhites are struggling with injuries in the side, the boss has decided to stubbornly stand by his style of playing which has only put more pressure on the players coming into his side.
It was a disappointing display in the North London Derby and supporters will no doubt feel somewhat let down by the performance put in by the supporters on the Wednesday evening.

The fact that Postecoglou has come away and criticised his side means this could go one of two ways. Some players do respond to being called out in this way and will take this as motivation to up their levels.
However, calling out the players in a very public way can also lead to fractions forming within the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which could spell the start of the end for the under-pressure boss.
In other Tottenham news, James Maddison could demand an exit from the club after being left out against the Gunners.
