Alan Shearer shares ‘big problems’ at Tottenham after what he has heard

Alan Shearer has mooted big problems at Tottenham as discontent continued in the defeat at Aston Villa on Sunday.

Spurs were eliminated from the FA Cup as Unai Emery’s team won 2-1 at Villa Park on 9 February.

Daniel Levy could seemingly sack Ange Postecoglou as the 17-year wait for a trophy at the North London outfit continues.

The Lilywhites have been knocked out of the Carabao and FA Cup in a matter of days, rightfully leading to anger among the fans.

Shearer feels there are bigger issues at the North London outfit though, as Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers sealed Villa’s victory.

The former striker understands the Australian manager’s situation as injuries have derailed Spurs’ season but feels the atmosphere has turned sour.

Shearer even acknowledged the fans calling for Levy’s dismissal after what has been a poor season.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football (10 February), the 54-year-old said: “Big problems at Spurs.

“I know about the injuries and all of that, but there’s definitely discontent. You can hear the fans singing about Levy out and everything else.”

Ange Postecoglou dreading after Aston Villa loss

Postecoglou will arguably be looking over his shoulder at Tottenham after being eliminated from yet another cup competition.

The Australian manager seemingly hinted at winning a trophy at the North London outfit this season and now the only chance is the Europa League.

But even winning the European title feels unrealistic, considering the standards Spurs have set in the current campaign.

The Lilywhites have been in abysmal form as of late, failing to get a run of victories in the Premier League and losing nine of their last 12 matches in the English top flight.

While Postecoglou managed to drown out some of the noise after beating Brentford 2-0 on 2 February, the losses to Liverpool and Villa have damaged his credentials.

Spurs fans have been largely patient with the former Celtic boss, but given the results over the past few weeks, they wouldn’t be bothered if he were to be sacked.

The supporters will continue to press Levy even if the Australian manager departs, and it’s now up to the North London outfit’s chief to decide what to do next.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Postecoglou wanting to leave Spurs as he looked dejected after the defeat at Villa Park.
