Alan Shearer left shocked by latest Thomas Frank developments at Tottenham – ‘Unbelievable’
Thomas Frank’s future at Tottenham remains in serious doubt after another disappointing result in the Premier League.
Tottenham drew 2-2 with Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, and it leaves them just eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Micky Van de Ven’s opener was cancelled out by goals from Axel Tuanzebe and then Lyle Foster, but Cristian Romero’s late header rescued a point for the North London side.
Frank was booed by the travelling fans at the full-time whistle, and it’s clear that the disconnect between supporters and the manager is only growing.
Thomas Frank has blamed issues on injuries
Frank has consistently mentioned injury problems as one of the reasons why Tottenham are struggling so badly at the moment.
Both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are yet to feature in a competitive game under the Dane, restricted to the sidelines with long-term issues.
In recent weeks, the crisis has gone from bad to worse, with Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Ben Davies all ruled out for long periods through injury in the past few weeks.
The latest to enter the treatment room was Lucas Bergvall, who is expected to miss up to three months after picking up an ankle issue during the win over Dortmund in the Champions League.
Speaking ahead of the draw with Burnley, Frank said that it seemed his side were “cursed” with injuries.
However, former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer doesn’t believe the former Brentford boss has any room for excuses.
Alan Shearer slams Tottenham despite injury crisis
Frank is now statistically the worst-ever permanent Tottenham manager since ENIC took control of the club back in 2021.
Spurs have won just two of their last 14 Premier League games, and are sliding dangerously towards the bottom three.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Shearer insisted that even with their injury issues, the North London side should be doing far better than they actually are.
The former England international said: “Everyone has injuries. They’ve got Solanke back, they’ve got Kolo Muani on the bench, Odobert, Tel.
“They still should be performing better than what they’re doing, even with the injuries they’ve got. They’ve been so poor it’s unbelievable.”
Frank’s side face Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, where they will hope to secure a place in the top eight of the group phase, which would mean immediate qualification through to the last 16 of the competition.
