Alan Shearer disagrees after Tottenham controversy v Newcastle

Alan Shearer disagreed with Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham lost to Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

The former Magpies striker feels the officials were right not to chalk off Anthony Gordon’s equaliser after the ball hit Joelinton’s hand in the build-up.

Postecoglou was unhappy with some of the refereeing decisions during Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Newcastle on Saturday (4 January), but Shearer has a conflicting opinion about one of the incidents.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football (6 January), the 54-year-old said: “Under the current law, that’s not handball. If that’s the one that Ange was on about, then he’s wrong.”

Tottenham show resilience against Newcastle

The North London outfit once again lined up with a makeshift backline with Radu Dragusin partnering Archie Gray.

Djed Spence was also deployed at left-back before switching to the centre of defence after Dragusin’s substitution at the break.

Tottenham have an injury crisis on their hands as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies are on the sidelines.

The Lilywhites have now failed to win any of their last four fixtures in the Premier League and find themselves in the bottom half of the table.

Spurs performed well against Eddie Howe’s team but were unable to come away with any points.

Postecoglou finds himself under pressure at Tottenham after some underwhelming results in the last few weeks.

The Australian manager has the chance to improve the atmosphere in N17 with a win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Arne Slot’s team are set to travel to North London on Wednesday (8 January) in the first leg of the domestic competition.

Managing to win a trophy this season could be all Postecoglou needs to cement his place in the history books.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou could face a ban from the FA after what he’s done.
