Alan Shearer comments spell bad news for Postecoglou at Tottenham

Alan Shearer’s latest Tottenham comments spell bad news for manager Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs travel to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday (22 February), aiming to make it three wins in a row in the competition.

However, despite the recent wins over Brentford and Manchester United, Spurs‘ campaign has derailed somewhat this month.

Tottenham exited the EFL Cup against Liverpool and then crashed out to Aston Villa in the FA Cup just a few days later.

Postecoglou was strongly touted with the sack at Tottenham, but he ultimately still remains in charge at this point.

Shearer predicts Ipswich v Tottenham result

Tottenham’s focus is now on winning the Europa League, with a top-four – or indeed top five – finish in the Premier League surely out of the question.

Indeed, Tottenham are forecast to finish in their current position of 12th place, which it goes without saying is quite simply not good enough.

While focus may be on Europe, that is not to say Spurs can afford to drop off any further in the Premier League.

With each bad result comes fresh pressure on under-fire boss Postecoglou, which is why Shearer’s pre-Ipswich comments could spell bad news.

Writing for The Metro [21 February], Shearer said he is “still not convinced” by Spurs and he is expecting a draw at Portman Road on Saturday.

Tottenham record v Ipswich Town

Tottenham, if any fans needed reminding, were beaten 2-1 by Ipswich in the reverse fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November.

Going further back, the Lilywhites have now lost four in a row against the Tractor Boys in the Premier League – a sequence of results not interrupted by any cup fixtures.

Tottenham therefore go into this latest clash with Ipswich seeking their first win over them since August 2000.

That simply has to be the aim for Postecoglou, with a draw – or even worse a defeat – only likely to further increase the pressure on his shoulders.

Ipswich have showed they are no pushovers this season, most notable against Spurs three months ago, but there is zero reason Tottenham should not be winning this contest.
