Tottenham torn to shreds live on Sky Sports in loss v Aston Villa — ‘Shambolic’

Tottenham lost 2-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday, with Don Goodman raging at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s team hosted Ange Postecoglou’s side, with the visitors fielding a relatively weak starting lineup ahead of the Europa League final.

Ezri Konsa opened the scoring for the Lions in the 59th minute, before Boubacar Kamara sealed the three points at Villa Park.

The North London outfit have now lost 21 games in the English top flight this season as they sit 17th in the table with just one game to go.

Spurs defending for Konsa goal shambolic against Villa

Spurs were shambolic in their defending as Konsa found the back of the net at Villa Park, Goodman said.

The Sky Sports pundit was left baffled by how poor the North London outfit were in their attempt to stop the Lions from scoring their opening goal.

Goodman tore the Lilywhites to shreds as the centre-back was left free in the box as Ollie Watkins nodded the ball down from John McGinn’s corner.

Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League (16 May, 20:48), the commentator said: “From a defensive point of view, it’s shambolic really. Really, really poor. How on earth can an opponent have so much time and space, not once but twice?”

Postecoglou taking Europa League gamble at Tottenham

Postecoglou seems to be fully focused on the Europa League final, affecting their prospects in the Premier League.

While the Australian manager may think Spurs have nothing left to play for in the top flight, fans will have a different view.

Travelling supporters wouldn’t have been pleased with the former Celtic boss’ team selection against Emery’s team, who’ve been impressive this season.

It looked like Tottenham came to Villa Park expecting to be beaten and willing to throw away the three points.

The final in Bilbao against Manchester United on 21 May is undoubtedly key for the Lilywhites, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t care about their domestic results.

Postecoglou is taking a gamble by putting all of his eggs in the Europa League basket, which may potentially lead to his sacking.

Even if the Australian manager wins the European trophy, his dismissal could possibly be on the cards after what’s happened in the Premier League.
