Why Tottenham could benefit vs PSG as big-name star out of Super Cup clash

Tottenham will face PSG in this year’s UEFA Super Cup, and there will be one notable omission.

Tottenham have had a fairly solid pre-season, but their campaign will be underway for real when they face PSG in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

It will be Thomas Frank‘s first shot at winning a trophy in North London, with hopes of adding more as the season goes on.

However, one big-name star is set to miss the clash, and it could be a sizeable boost for Spurs.

Gianluigi Donnarumma set for PSG exit in Tottenham boost

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are two absentees for Tottenham against PSG, with Maddison set to miss the majority of the season after sustaining an injury in pre-season.

As for PSG, they will likely be without Gianluigi Donnarumma, who it is widely reported is being pushed out of the door by Luis Enrique, with an exit on the cards.

The Italian international has produced some huge moments for the Ligue 1 outfit, but the signing of Lucas Chevalier has seemingly displaced him from Enrique’s plans for the upcoming season.

Donnarumma was a regular for the Parisians last season, making 24 league appearances and 47 in total, with 51 saves in Ligue 1.

However, his 85.4 per cent pass accuracy was crucial for their success, and if they are to lose that against Tottenham, it could serve as a huge boost for the way Spurs want to play.

In comparison, Chevalier recorded a 77.1 per cent pass accuracy, showcasing that PSG could be vulnerable with the ball at the back.

Man United and Villa have been mooted as potential landing spots for Donnarumma, who is confirmed not to be in the squad for the Super Cup clash.

Tottenham have what it takes to beat PSG

PSG won the Champions League last season, and that is just a showcase of how impressive they are when they are at their best.

However, the same can be said for Spurs, who could cause an upset if they are at the top of their game tomorrow night.

Frank will be aware of the need to get off to a good start and will undoubtedly pick a team that can go on and achieve that in Udine, Italy.
