Tottenham player ratings vs PSG – Mohammed Kudus shines as 5/10 teammate lets Spurs down

Tottenham turned in an excellent performance despite losing to PSG on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the UEFA Super Cup final.

The Lilywhites put in a mature display, even if goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were not enough to ultimately lift the trophy.

Thomas Frank will be desperate for Spurs to get their season off to a good start, and he will be very pleased with what he saw from his side in their first competitive outing of his reign, despite the final result.

With that in mind, Tottenham News rates the performance of every Spurs player on a night that delivered plenty of positivity.

Kudus excellent in 8/10 Tottenham display

Spurs will have big expectations of Mohammed Kudus this season after his £55million move from West Ham earlier in the summer, and the early signs from the Ghanaian have certainly been encouraging.

He has caught the eye for the energy that he provided in pre-season, and it was a similar story in his competitive debut.

The 24-year-old played in a slightly withdrawn role behind Richarlison, and he worked tirelessly for his team from start to finish.

Kudus’ strong running dragged his team up the pitch on numerous occasions, and he was a constant thorn in the side of his opponents.

He may not have delivered a goal or an assist, but it was another hugely promising showing from the forward, and worth of an 8/10 rating.

If he can continue to be such a threat for Spurs, then that £55m could be made to look like a bargain very quickly indeed.

Spence costs Spurs with 5/10 display

Destiny Udogie’s injury has been a blow for Spurs, and meant that Djed Spence was always likely to earn the start on the left flank.

The defender has largely struggled for form since arriving in N17, and he had a difficult time of it on the left flank on Wednesday, particularly in the latter stages of the game.

He handled Achraf Hakimi well for the majority of the night, and effectively took the left side out of the picture, only to then let himself down with a lapse in concentration in stoppage time.

The 25-year-old switched off momentarily and allowed Ousmane Dembele to get in behind him and put the ball across for Goncalo Ramos’ equaliser.

It was far from a poor performance from Spence on the whole, but he ultimately cost Spurs in a key moment of the game.
