Tottenham player ratings v Luton – Kudus lively, Johnson hopeless
Tottenham ended their third pre-season fixture with a lacklustre 0-0 draw against Luton Town.
The Lilywhites were set for a busy weekend when a last-minute fixture against Wycombe was pencilled into the schedule.
However, the clash against Luton Town was anticipated to be the main event, with over 1,000 Tottenham fans making the trip to Kenilworth Road.
Luton were the better side in the goalless draw with Spurs, and had a few chances to make the difference across the confrontation. Other than a last-minute opportunity for Will Lankshear, this will be a game Spurs supporters will be hoping to forget.

Mohammed Kudus looked lively against Luton
Mohammed Kudus was most certainly the brightest spark in Tottenham’s lacklustre performance against Luton.
The forward was signed from West Ham earlier this summer and had already shown his potential against Reading. To the glee of Spurs supporters, he seemed determined to live up to the standard he recently set.
One of Spurs’ better chances of the game came from Kudus’ genius, where he saw his effort cleared off the line after a clever pass from Mathys Tel. Not a minute later, the winger came back for more, sending a perfectly-weighted pass to Tel, which was dealt with by Josh Keeley.
For a large chunk of the confrontation, it looked as though if Tottenham were going to score a goal, the former West Ham man would be on the other end. During a game that most will tune out, the performance from Kudus will give them something to remember.

Brennan Johnson hopeless against Luton
It would not be surprising if Brennan Johnson’s performance against Luton convinced Thomas Frank to end his left-wing experiment.
The Dane lined up with Kudus on the right, Tel through the middle, and Johnson on the left. While the Welshman had moments on the left-hand side under Ange Postecoglou, he was almost invisible at Kenilworth Road.
Confrontation | Player | Goals | Assists |
Luton Town v Tottenham (pre-season) | Brennan Johnson | – | – |
Over the three quarters he had on the pitch, Johnson had two moments of brilliance.
The first came during the opening three minutes, where he drove past his marker to put in a good ball into the box for Kudus. Meanwhile, the second came just before he was substituted, where his movement in the box almost saw him on the other end of a sublime cross from Kudus.
With competition expected to be rife at Tottenham next season, Johnson’s position as a starter is entering shaky ground.
