Postecoglou does something no Tottenham manager ever has in Liverpool game

Tottenham’s main focus is on the Europa League for the rest of this season, and this has shown in their Premier League results.

Ange Postecoglou is fighting to save his job after a truly dismal domestic campaign, but Spurs will hope to reach the Europa League final in the coming weeks.

Tottenham have slid further and further down the Premier League table, and with their priority their upcoming semi-final tie with Bodo/Glimt, they are ringing the changes for their league games.

They have travelled to Anfield to face Liverpool in a daunting fixture, and Postecoglou has now sprung a surprise with his team selection.

Postecoglou makes eight changes for Liverpool v Tottenham

Spurs were beaten by Nottingham Forest last time out, but with their eye on the Europa League, Postecoglou has made eight changes.

The match at Liverpool has seen Tottenham put out a team with more rotation than ever before in their Premier League history.

“Tottenham have made eight changes to their starting XI for today’s game at Anfield; the most they’ve ever made from one Premier League game to another,” Opta revealed on X.

The eight changes have seen Kevin Danso, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson come in.

Tottenham right to rotate against Liverpool

Liverpool headed into the game knowing that a point would see them win the Premier League title, and their strong form makes them heavy favourites.

Tottenham have nothing to play for in the league, and even if they went full strength, they would have still been up against it, having not won at Anfield since 2011.

Their priority has to be the Europa League, and in an injury-stricken season, they could not afford any more bad luck with players going down at Anfield.

Centre-backs Cristian Romero and Mickey Van de Ven were both rested at Liverpool, which sums up how much the upcoming game against Bodo is being prioritised.

Winning or losing against Liverpool will have no impact on their dismal Premier League campaign, but victory against Bodo would put them in a driving seat to reach the final.
