Johnson MOTM, 4/10 teammate flops: Tottenham player ratings v Man United

Tottenham ended their trophy drought in style as they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.

After a scrappy start, the game sprang to life at the end of the first half as Brennan Johnson touched the ball into the net to give Spurs a scrappy lead.

This no doubt caused mass celebrations amongst the Tottenham fanbase as they threw a flare onto the Spurs pitch.

The second half was far more nervy as Manchester United pushed for an equaliser.

Micky van de Ven was forced to clear an effort off the line as Ange Postecoglou’s team hung on.

However, despite their efforts, United couldn’t find a way through with Guglielmo Vicario making a vital save right at the end as Spurs finally ended their wait for a trophy.

Brennan Johnson becomes Tottenham legend

For Tottenham, a trophy has been a long time coming. On Wednesday night they had to win no matter the circumstances thrown at them after the poor campaign they have endured in the Premier League.

The quality was certainly lacking at times, but Postecoglou’s side completed their task.

The first goal in Bilbao was always going to be vital, and Johnson was the player to find the net.

While Johnson’s place in the Spurs squad has been questioned continously over the season, he may never score a more important goal in his career.

While it was no doubt scrappy, niether Spurs fans or the Welshman will care as he cemented his place in Tottenham’s history.

Hopefully, Johnson can use this as motivation to truly catipult his Tottenham career and become the success he has shown he can be.
