James Maddison blown away by ‘brilliant’ Tottenham star in win vs West Ham

Tottenham got back to winning ways as they comfortably beat London rivals West Ham 3-0 on Saturday evening.

Every meeting between Tottenham and West Ham is tense, but this fixture in particular had added drama as Mohammed Kudus returned to the London Stadium for the first time since his summer move to Spurs.

Tottenham were dominant in every aspect against West Ham. Three different goal scorers, along with three points, will make Thomas Frank happy.

James Maddison had a lot to say about the refereeing Tottenham’s win – but he also had some good words to say about the derby day victory in East London.

James Maddison praises Lucas Bergvall after win over West Ham

While the pre-season injury to Maddison was devastating for Spurs, they have been able to cope without him under Frank so far, thanks to the summer signings that were brought in.

Dutch international Xavi Simons had an impressive Spurs debut, in which he got an assist.

Lucas Bergvall posted on Instagram after he scored his first Premier League goal for the North London club.

Maddison replied, saying: “Love it, mate! Brilliant today.”

Maddison was a key contributor for Tottenham last season, notching double figures in both goals and assists across all competitions. However, this term, he’s not expected to kick a ball in anger until April at the earliest.

Bergvall started many games in the second half of last season and proved to be a standout player.

The cohesion among the players at Spurs is apparent and likely had a massive impact as they won the Europa League, despite their poor league campaign.

Thomas Frank proves he is the right man to lead Tottenham

The question following Tottenham’s poor defeat against Bournemouth last time out was how they would respond, they could not have had a better response than what they displayed against West Ham.

Tottenham always have questions about their mentality and ability to win all the time, it seemed like the same old Tottenham in the Bournemouth game, but this performance shows this team can learn from mistakes and grow from them.

Last season’s losses seemed to feel inevitable before a ball was kicked, but Frank has reinvigorated both players and fans alike with a real buzz around Tottenham. This season, as the club returns to the Champions League has the chance to be a memorable one.
