Gary Neville points out ‘incredible’ thing Rodrigo Bentancur did in win vs Everton
Tottenham’s visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium was always destined to be an eventful affair.
Tottenham were not the favourites to win against Everton in the Premier League on 26 October, but battled to a fantastic 3-0 victory against the odds.
Aston Villa defeated Spurs at home last time out, but a moment of individual brilliance from Rodrigo Bentancur ensured fans were able to celebrate at least one goal.
And the midfielder has impressed again in the Lilywhites’ ninth game of the league season, even without finding the net on Merseyside.

Gary Neville praises ‘incredible’ Rodrigo Bentancur
There were calls for Thomas Frank not to start Bentancur against Everton after an inconsistent start to the season.
Indeed, Bentancur’s partnership with Joao Palhinha has been criticised as being too defensive in some of the Lilywhites’ fixtures.
But his doubters were once again proven wrong when he flicked the ball into Micky van de Ven’s path for Spurs’ opener against the Toffees.
On the action, Gary Neville, while commentating on the game via Sky Sports, praised the intelligence behind the play, if the Uruguayan star meant it.
He said: “That’s a really good delivery from Mohammed Kudus, takes out the goalkeeper. Jordan Pickford by all the players around him.
“If he means that Bentancur with his shoulder, well, it’s incredible.”
The praise comes as no surprise, and other than a few mistimed passes, Bentancur had a solid afternoon against Everton.
Rodrigo Bentancur must continue to get in attacking positions
Bentancur’s involvement in Van de Ven’s goal against the Toffees highlights once again how lethal he can be when advanced in the box.
While creativity is definitely not his strong suit, which is illustrated by several stats from Sofascore, he is still finding himself in important areas in the final third.
- He has made 0.6 key passes in the league
- He has created one big chance
- Bentancur has one assist in the Premier League this season
However, one thing the midfielder is good at is being dangerous when in the box. Whether this is latching onto a well-timed pass or setting up his teammates, his physical stature allows him to be a consistent threat.
This is something that Frank will need to take notice of moving forward, and there is no reason why the Uruguayan can’t become a consistent target in the area for Tottenham.
