Djed Spence latest as 18 players could miss Tottenham vs Newcastle clash

Tottenham’s absentee list keeps on growing with Cristian Romero’s red card at Old Trafford not helping things.

The Lilywhites now turn to Newcastle on Tuesday after Thomas Frank’s side struggled against Man United last time out.

Spurs could be looking at a relegation battle if results do not start trending upwards, and Frank’s job at Tottenham is far from safe.

Eddie Howe’s side have also found themselves in poor form, having not won any of their last four Premier League games.

Now, ahead of the fixture, there are quite a few injury and suspension concerns for Tottenham and Newcastle.

Injury latest ahead of Tottenham vs Newcastle

Tottenham are favourites to beat Newcastle, but looking at the injury blows to both sides, there would be little hope Spurs can snag a crucial win.

Frank has quite a crisis at the back, and his options are now even slimmer following Romero’s inexplicable sending off.

The manager will be hoping to turn things around, even though form has been extremely poor.

Ahead of Newcastle, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin remain his only available centre-backs. Kevin Danso is still recovering from a toe injury.

Romero, of course, is serving a four-game ban.

Meanwhile at fullback, Pedro Porro, Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie are still ruled out, but Frank could see Djed Spence return after providing a positive update before facing Man United.

However, at the moment, the England star is 50/50 as to whether he is available.

In attack, Richarlison is nearing his return date, but Newcastle is too soon for the Brazilian, while Mohammed Kudus remains sidelined.

The opposition have concerns of their own, with Anthony Gordon and Joelinton among their possible absentees in North London.

Thomas Frank in his final swansong to save his Spurs job

While there is plenty of sympathy for Frank in England after seeing that extensive injury list, you have to feel that the Dane only has a few weeks or games to save his job.

In truth, the results over this season have not been good enough, and there have been no signs of that changing anytime soon.

The defeat against Manchester United was not a shock, and that simply says it all about the current situation.

Another loss, and this time to the hands of Newcastle, could well and truly be the final nail in the coffin ahead of a huge North London derby.
